"I still can't believe it. I'm devastated, speechless," lamented Spain international Samu Omorodion on Tuesday. He suffered an anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injury in his right knee during Monday's match between Porto and Sporting, which will sideline him for several months.

"Yesterday marked the most unfortunate day of my career. I suffered a serious injury. I still can't believe it. I'm devastated, speechless," the Porto forward posted on his Instagram profile.

"I'll be sidelined for several months. It's incredibly difficult not to be able to help the team on the pitch as I'd like," he added. "Now I'm just another fan supporting our goals."

The Melilla-born player expressed his gratitude for the support received, affirming his commitment to "stay strong and positive" in order to "return stronger than ever."

Porto announced in a statement that the player sustained an anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injury after spraining his right knee during Monday's match. The club's medical department will review his condition in the coming days.

Samu, 21, formerly of Alaves – where he played on loan from Atletico Madrid, who held his registration – sustained the injury on Monday during the 1-1 draw against Sporting Lisbon in the Portuguese league. The player collapsed to the pitch, clutching his knee at the end of the first half after a collision with Sporting's Spanish right-back, Ivan Fresneda. Although he briefly returned to the field after receiving treatment, Porto substituted him at half-time.

While Porto has not specified his recovery timeline, an anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injury typically requires a minimum of six months for recovery. Consequently, the forward will miss the remainder of Porto's season and upcoming fixtures for Spain, including the Finalissima against Argentina and a friendly match against Egypt, both scheduled for March in Qatar. Furthermore, Luis de la Fuente's squad will be without him for the 2026 World Cup, set to take place in the United States, Mexico, and Canada.

This season, Samu has netted 20 goals for Porto, with 13 coming in the Portuguese league, where the 'Dragoes' currently hold a solitary lead.
